Jack of the Karoo is situated in the picturesque town Sutherland in the Karoo. Known for its cold snowy winters and breathtaking stars, this town is a must for every traveller.
Jack of the Karoo consists of three houses – Jack, Die Prokureurshuis and Raka.
Jack is a newly renovated old Victorian house without losing her charm and character. With a big old willow tree in front of the house where you can relax on the stoep and enjoy the fresh Karoo air.
Die Prokureurshuis, dating back to 1937, the house shares a rich history with two of Sutherlands most famous poets, NP van Wyk Louw and his brother WEG Louw.
Die Prokureurshuis features typical Karoo architecture. These houses in the Karoo were built of local materials such as sandstone, handmade bricks and plastered with a breathable mud plaster. A prominent covered stoep serves as protection against the harsh sun.
Raka also features typical Karoo architecture and is recently renovated with large covered stoeps in the front and at the back of the house.
Living Areas
The houses have big dining tables where you can enjoy family get-togethers, play board games and enjoy a braai with a karoo lamb chop in front of a crackling fire.
